Scouting reports and season previews
01 Cleveland | 92 OVR • OFF 80 / DEF 89 • 12-4 • 13.83% SB
Antonio Gates headlines a superb tight-end group, while Sean Taylor and the linebackers give this roster its strongest identity: aggressive, defense-first football. The offensive interior is a glaring weakness at guard and center, so sustained protection could undermine an otherwise title-caliber team.
Strengths: TE:107 • SS:97 • LB:97 Needs: G:54 • C:64 • QB:69
02 Minnesota | 91 OVR • OFF 85 / DEF 80 • 12-4 • 12.35% SB
Drew Brees directs the league's best weighted offense, protected by Orlando Pace and Willie Roaf at tackle. A potent passing game and solid backfield make Minnesota difficult to contain; guard depth and free safety are the clearest vulnerabilities.
Strengths: QB:99 • T:95 • FB:86 Needs: FS:72 • G:73 • WR:74
03 Los Angeles (LAA) | 89 OVR • OFF 83 / DEF 78 • 11-5 • 9.19% SB
An unusually strong tackle corps and productive tight end Desmond Clark create an offense built to control the edges and exploit matchups. The defensive tackle group is below average, so opponents will try to run inside and force the defense into unfavorable downs.
Strengths: TE:97 • T:95 • C:94 Needs: DT:59 • FB:70 • WR:74
04 Miami | 89 OVR • OFF 78 / DEF 84 • 11-5 • 9.05% SB
The defensive front, anchored by highly rated ends, complements a standout strong-safety group led by Lee Flowers. Miami's route to contention is pressure and field position; the weakness at free safety and center can be targeted.
Strengths: SS:93 • FB:92 • DE:91 Needs: FS:58 • C:64 • G:71
05 Chicago | 88 OVR • OFF 81 / DEF 80 • 11-5 • 8.06% SB
Ed Reed and a dominant edge rush featuring Chike Okeafor and Julius Peppers are capable of stealing games. Offensive tackles are excellent, but uneven quarterback play and especially below-average linebackers could limit the ceiling.
Strengths: FS:100 • DE:96 • T:95 Needs: LB:64 • QB:67 • C:70
06 Indianapolis | 88 OVR • OFF 79 / DEF 81 • 11-5 • 7.26% SB
Shaun Alexander drives a dangerous ground attack, backed by a talented secondary. The glaring concern is the offensive line's tackle and center positions, which could derail both the run game and pass protection against strong fronts.
Strengths: FS:94 • RB:92 • SS:91 Needs: T:57 • C:58 • FB:74
07 New York Giants | 88 OVR • OFF 81 / DEF 78 • 10-6 • 6.81% SB
Tom Brady supplies elite quarterback play, with Dan Kreider at fullback and a strong tight-end group offering multiple offensive looks. The halfback room is the league's biggest positional problem for this club, putting pressure on Brady to carry the attack.
Strengths: QB:101 • FB:100 • TE:91 Needs: RB:50 • SS:63 • DE:67
08 Buffalo | 86 OVR • OFF 78 / DEF 79 • 10-6 • 5.26% SB
A highly rated secondary led by Mike Brown and Darren Sharper is Buffalo's calling card; the tight ends add flexibility on offense. The running backs are a substantial weak point, pushing the team toward an aerial and field-position approach.
Strengths: SS:95 • FS:94 • TE:93 Needs: FB:56 • RB:62 • G:66
09 Carolina | 86 OVR • OFF 79 / DEF 76 • 10-6 • 4.38% SB
Ahman Green powers an excellent rushing group, with above-average receiving options and Jerry Azumah at free safety. Carolina can win through the backfield, but weak tight ends and centers limit schematic flexibility.
Strengths: FS:94 • RB:92 • WR:85 Needs: TE:57 • C:58 • DE:69
10 Baltimore | 85 OVR • OFF 83 / DEF 71 • 10-6 • 3.85% SB
Tony Gonzalez is an exceptional matchup weapon, and the offensive interior is dependable enough to feature him heavily. The defense is less imposing, especially at end; Baltimore will need to win by outscoring opponents.
Strengths: TE:107 • C:82 • G:82 Needs: DE:59 • FB:66 • FS:68
11 Dallas | 85 OVR • OFF 73 / DEF 82 • 10-6 • 3.55% SB
Grady Jackson and Albert Haynesworth form the backbone of a formidable interior defensive line, with Todd McClure anchoring the offensive line. Dallas projects as a physical, trench-oriented club, though free safety is exploitable.
Strengths: DT:98 • C:96 • LB:86 Needs: FS:66 • FB:66 • QB:69
12 New York Jets | 85 OVR • OFF 81 / DEF 72 • 10-6 • 3.45% SB
Peyton Manning and a top receiving group offer a pass-first offensive blueprint; Brian Dawkins helps stabilize the back end. Defensive tackle and edge rush are severe weaknesses, leaving this team vulnerable to opponents who can control the ball.
Strengths: QB:101 • SS:97 • WR:93 Needs: DT:49 • DE:61 • C:62
13 Houston | 85 OVR • OFF 75 / DEF 79 • 9-7 • 3.06% SB
Michael Strahan and Greg Spires provide dangerous edge pressure, with Darren Woodson excellent at free safety. Houston is built to win with defensive disruption, but weak running-back production and strong-safety play complicate close games.
Strengths: FS:96 • DE:93 • FB:84 Needs: SS:63 • RB:68 • TE:69
14 Denver | 85 OVR • OFF 78 / DEF 75 • 9-7 • 2.81% SB
Marshall Faulk gives Denver a dynamic foundation, with Olin Kreutz anchoring the middle and above-average quarterback play. Thin talent at tight end and fullback reduces flexibility in heavier formations.
Strengths: C:100 • RB:92 • QB:89 Needs: FB:52 • TE:53 • WR:62
15 Philadelphia | 83 OVR • OFF 73 / DEF 77 • 9-7 • 1.54% SB
Mike Alstott at fullback and Matt Birk at center give Philadelphia an unusually physical interior identity. But the tackles and running backs lag badly, so creating explosive plays without protection will be a struggle.
Strengths: FB:124 • C:98 • SS:95 Needs: T:59 • RB:60 • FS:64
16 San Francisco | 82 OVR • OFF 77 / DEF 77 • 8-8 • 1.10% SB
LaDainian Tomlinson is the centerpiece, supported by strong receivers and a pass rush led by Jevon Kearse. San Francisco wants to play through its star runner and edge defenders, but guard and fullback are major bottlenecks.
Strengths: RB:92 • DE:91 • WR:88 Needs: FB:40 • G:64 • C:66
17 Detroit | 82 OVR • OFF 73 / DEF 75 • 8-8 • 1.04% SB
Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala is a high-end fullback, and Vince Wilfork helps anchor the interior defense. Extremely poor receiver and defensive end groups suggest a low-ceiling, grind-it-out offense and limited edge pressure.
Strengths: FB:116 • DT:85 • TE:85 Needs: WR:51 • DE:55 • FS:66
18 Atlanta | 82 OVR • OFF 77 / DEF 77 • 8-8 • 1.07% SB
Michael Vick introduces mobility and playmaking, with Jared Allen bolstering a strong edge-rushing tandem. Atlanta's offensive creativity can generate wins, but weaker center and free-safety play leave clear attack points.
Strengths: QB:89 • DE:88 • WR:85 Needs: FS:58 • C:66 • CB:66
19 Green Bay | 81 OVR • OFF 74 / DEF 78 • 8-8 • 0.67% SB
Corey Dillon and the guards are the strengths of an offense designed to attack on the ground. The defense has credible cornerback play, but the free safety and tight end rooms are significant liabilities.
Strengths: G:88 • RB:86 • CB:84 Needs: FS:56 • TE:57 • FB:64
20 Pittsburgh | 81 OVR • OFF 77 / DEF 73 • 8-8 • 0.52% SB
Donovan McNabb is the centerpiece of a quarterback-driven attack, and London Fletcher provides leadership in the linebacker corps. The tackles and free safety positions lag the league, so pass protection will dictate the season.
Strengths: QB:97 • LB:81 • G:79 Needs: FS:62 • T:64 • TE:67
21 Kansas City | 80 OVR • OFF 71 / DEF 79 • 7-9 • 0.35% SB
A sturdy linebacker corps and Lawyer Milloy at free safety headline a defense-first team. The offense lacks strength at center, while strong safety is a particularly severe mismatch risk.
Strengths: FS:100 • LB:89 • DT:84 Needs: SS:55 • C:60 • RB:66
22 Cincinnati | 79 OVR • OFF 66 / DEF 85 • 7-9 • 0.26% SB
Aaron Rodgers and a good pass rush offer foundations on both sides of the ball. But a depleted halfback room and weak tight ends make the offense one-dimensional despite its quarterback talent.
Strengths: QB:91 • DE:90 • CB:88 Needs: RB:50 • TE:59 • WR:61
23 San Diego | 79 OVR • OFF 74 / DEF 75 • 7-9 • 0.24% SB
Philip Rivers gives the offense an efficient centerpiece, with Brad Hoover supporting the running game and solid cornerbacks outside. Tight end and defensive end are weak, which limits receiving diversity and pass rush.
Strengths: FB:96 • QB:93 • CB:89 Needs: TE:57 • DE:61 • FS:62
24 Los Angeles (LAN) | 78 OVR • OFF 76 / DEF 71 • 7-9 • 0.18% SB
Charles Woodson leads a good cornerback tandem, while Dan Campbell provides a reliable tight-end option. The defense has a weak free-safety spot and the offense gets little from fullback, creating an uneven roster.
Strengths: TE:83 • CB:82 • C:82 Needs: FB:44 • FS:52 • DT:54
25 Jacksonville | 77 OVR • OFF 70 / DEF 74 • 6-10 • 0.08% SB
Rodney Harrison heads a strong safety pairing, with the fullback position another bright spot. A very weak tight-end group and poor defensive end play narrow the ways Jacksonville can win.
Strengths: SS:97 • FB:92 • FS:88 Needs: TE:37 • DE:56 • QB:59
26 Tampa Bay | 76 OVR • OFF 77 / DEF 65 • 6-10 • 0.04% SB
Drew Bledsoe plays behind a quality center in Jeff Hartings, giving Tampa Bay a plausible pass-first attack. The defense trails badly, particularly at free safety, and the running backs offer little relief.
Strengths: C:100 • QB:93 • T:83 Needs: FS:58 • RB:60 • CB:62
27 Phoenix | 75 OVR • OFF 71 / DEF 68 • 5-11 • 0.02% SB
Tiki Barber and Jeremy Shockey are capable offensive building blocks. But the quarterback group grades terribly and the linebackers are weak, limiting both offensive execution and defensive consistency.
Strengths: TE:93 • RB:86 • DT:82 Needs: QB:49 • LB:55 • T:64
28 New Orleans | 70 OVR • OFF 69 / DEF 64 • 4-12 • 0.00% SB
Jeff Saturday anchors an excellent center group, and the tight ends and receivers provide some options. Low-end quarterback play and severe interior defensive-line problems make a winning season unlikely.
Strengths: C:100 • TE:79 • WR:76 Needs: DT:42 • QB:55 • T:59
29 Seattle | 69 OVR • OFF 66 / DEF 66 • 4-12 • 0.00% SB
Jason Taylor provides Seattle's clearest defensive game-changing talent, backed by capable guards and fullbacks. Major issues at quarterback and linebacker leave the team short on week-to-week consistency.
Strengths: FB:90 • DE:88 • G:86 Needs: QB:51 • LB:52 • SS:55
30 Tennessee | 69 OVR • OFF 63 / DEF 69 • 4-12 • 0.00% SB
Dwight Freeney and Justin Tuck make defensive end the standout unit, but the offense is badly undermanned at quarterback and fullback. The roster will need turnovers and defensive scores to stay competitive.
Strengths: DE:80 • FS:80 • CB:76 Needs: FB:36 • QB:49 • SS:49
31 Washington | 67 OVR • OFF 63 / DEF 66 • 3-13 • 0.00% SB
Edgerrin James is a genuine featured-back threat, with Steve Hutchinson strengthening the interior line. The quarterback and tight-end groups are very weak, making the offense too easy to crowd.
Strengths: RB:92 • G:76 • DE:72 Needs: QB:37 • TE:51 • T:54
32 New England | 66 OVR • OFF 68 / DEF 56 • 3-13 • 0.00% SB
Jamal Lewis and a sound tackle duo can create a workable ground attack. But the secondary, especially strong safety and cornerback, is overmatched and could be routinely exploited.
Strengths: T:88 • RB:84 • DT:76 Needs: SS:21 • CB:45 • QB:49
Interpretation and limitations
These rankings assess how the uploaded custom rosters would perform under the stated starter priorities, position-score transformations, team bonuses, and simulated-matchup assumptions. Offensive and defensive positional grades may exceed 99 because the grading transformation is not capped; the rounded Madden-style OFF/DEF/OVR values are summary ratings, not an official Madden franchise calculation.
The model does not incorporate actual opponent schedules, home field, coaching, specific game plans, injuries modeled at the player level, real NFL conference structure, special-teams performance, or historical results. The 10% randomness mechanism treats one in ten games as an unweighted coin flip rather than reducing every team's rating by 10%.
