Cubs Score Late, Clip Braves, 1-0
|
Atlanta got a terrific performance from pitcher Tom Glavine, but it wasn't enough to beat the Chicago Cubs. Chicago won the Wrigley Field contest, 1-0. Glavine threw 8.0 innings of 7-hit ball for the losing team. Chicago reliever Paul Quantrill got the win, raising his record to 1-1. Tom Glavine was tagged with the loss. Grant Balfour, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 2nd save.
Chicago took a 1-0 lead on Randy Winn's 1st double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Winn hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Atlanta pitcher Tom Glavine visibly frustrated.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Atlanta manager Brandon Quick said, following the tough loss.
Atlanta now has a record of 5-2.
