The Anaheim Angels could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Juan Guzman into a win. Instead, the Oakland Athletics prevailed, 3-2. Guzman threw 7.1 innings of shutout ball. The winner in relief was Danny Graves. He is now 2-2. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. The Athletics raised their record to 34-45.

Benji Gil was the walk-off hero for Oakland. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Athletics third baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Anaheim manager Tom Thompson said, following the tough loss.
