Dodgers Score Late, Stun Padres, 8-6
|
Though he had a terrific game, Fred McGriff could not prevent his team, the San Diego Padres, from absorbing a loss. Los Angeles won the game, 8-6. McGriff was 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. The second-place Dodgers have won 4 consecutive games.
Los Angeles used the timely hitting of Jose Offerman to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Dodgers on top, 8-6. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Los Angeles manager Dan Gallows was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys went out there and put good wood on the ball," he said.
