|
The San Diego Padres scored a tight, 4-3 win versus the San Francisco Giants at Qualcomm Stadium. San Diego pitcher Denny Neagle held his own in the contest. The winning pitcher was Neagle, now 13-11. He tossed 8 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 8. The third-place Padres improved to 68-80.
Fred McGriff hit a solo home run off Ray King in the bottom of the eighth, which put the Padres ahead, 4-3. In addition to the homer, McGriff had 1 double, while going 2 for 3.
"Denny gets tougher when he has to, makes a big pitch when he has to," said San Diego skipper Bob Rucker.
