Cleveland Beats Cincinnati, 5-2
|
The Cleveland Indians picked up a win at Jacobs Field, knocking off the Cincinnati Reds, 5-2. On the mound for Cleveland was right-hander Jose Rijo. He played a key role in the triumph. Rijo, now 4-11, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 12, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. Trever Miller, who finished 5th in the AL in saves with 37 in 1995, earned the save for Cleveland.
J.T. Snow had a big 2-run home run for the Indians in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Cleveland leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a slider from Jon Lieber, who leads the NL in complete games with 5, and punished it. The result was his 7th home run of the season, which put the Indians on top, 3-0.
Said losing manager Stephen Wardle: "Give the Indians credit. They played a better game than we did."
The Indians, at 35-52, sit in 4th place in the AL Central Division.
