Seattle Wins at Home to Take 2-1 Lead in DS
|
The Seattle Mariners moved to within one game of the League Championship Series, downing the visiting Cleveland Indians at Kingdome by a score of 9-3. Mariners catcher Jason Kendall did some major damage. He went 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 runs. The win gives the Mariners a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 Division Series.
With the game tied, 3-3, in the bottom of the seventh, Kendall had a key at-bat for Seattle. With the bases loaded, Kendall hit a run-scoring single off John Thomson, making the score 4-3, Mariners.
Indians manager John Price did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the World Series."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Kingdome in Seattle.
