Twins Get Clonked by Royals, 6-3
|
Kansas City and Minnesota duked it out and the Royals came out victorious.
Led by Aubrey Huff, the Kansas City Royals downed the Minnesota Twins, 6-3. Huff was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the Royals. Kevin Appier got the win, improving to 2-0. He worked 8.1 innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1.
Paul Konerko, who finished 3rd in the AL in OPS with 1.093 in 2002, chipped in a run-scoring sacrifice fly for Kansas City in the top of the fourth. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 3 RBI.
"I like winning," Konerko told the Kansas City Bulletin. "I may joke around, but when it comes down to it, winning is the most important thing."
The loss drops Minnesota to 7-5.
