The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals riveted fans at Busch Stadium.

The St. Louis Cardinals topped the Chicago Cubs, 5-3, in NL action at Busch Stadium. The standout performance belonged to St. Louis pitcher and Dominican Republic, native Jose Rijo. The winner was Rijo. He threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Greg Maddux. The save went to Heathcliff Slocumb, his 29th this season.

The Cardinals got a big at-bat from third baseman Travis Fryman. For the game, Fryman was 1-4 with a double. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 38th double of the season gave St. Louis a 3-2 lead.

"You come to the ballpark to do your job and that's what I did today," Fryman told the St. Louis Observer.

The second-place Cardinals sport a record of 71-48.
