Merced Homers Twice in 6-3 Marlins Win
|
The Florida Marlins beat the Chicago Cubs, 6-3, at Wrigley Field. The Marlins got a fine performance from right fielder Orlando Merced, who was 4-5 with 2 home runs, a triple, and a double. He scored 4 times and drove in 4. Jeff Fassero earned the win to go to 2-0. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts in 5 innings of work. The Cubs, now 5-9, continue their poor start.
Florida took a 5-2 lead on Merced's 1st double of the season. The 2-run double, which he hit off Stan Belinda in the top of the sixth, propelled Florida to the win.
Florida manager Chad Tackett was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard," he said.
