Blue Jays Score Late, Clip Twins, 6-5
|
The Toronto Blue Jays overcame a pretty good performance by Minnesota catcher A.J. Pierzynski, beating the Twins, 6-5, at SkyDome. Pierzynski went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Toronto reliever Dan Plesac, who finished 4th in the AL in saves with 32 in 1992, was credited with the win. His record goes to 2-3. Antonio Alfonseca took the loss for Minnesota. David Weathers earned the save, his 21st.
The Blue Jays beat the Twins in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Kelly Stinnett produced in the bottom of the eighth. Batting against Antonio Alfonseca, Stinnett gave his team the lead, 6-5, when he hit a 2-run single.
"There's a lot of fight left in this team," said Stinnett.
The loss makes Minnesota 71-59.
