Pirates third baseman Troy Glaus left his mark on his team's 8-6 win over the San Diego Padres. Glaus, who is on pace for 107 RBI this season, was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for Pittsburgh in the contest. Pittsburgh is now 70-69.

Alfonso Soriano had a big 3-run home run for the Pirates in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Pittsburgh trailing 4-3 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a slider from Tim Hudson, who leads the NL in holds with 18, and swatted a home run to left. It was his 39th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Pirates ahead, 6-4.

"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Pirates manager Randy Rieske.
