Cubs Lose at Home, 6-5, to Los Angeles
|
The Los Angeles Dodgers downed the Chicago Cubs, 6-5, the largest share of the credit belonging to second baseman Jeff Kent. On the day, Kent went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Dodgers. Trevor Hoffman finished the game for Los Angeles and earned his 10th save. The Cubs, at 16-27, have lost 5 straight games.
In the top of the fifth, Los Angeles shortstop Jose Valentin had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and two out, Valentin stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 5-4, Los Angeles. For the game, he went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk.
"Good, blue-collar kind of win," said Dodgers manager Dan Gallows.
