The Texas Rangers did just enough to sneak past the Houston Astros, 2-1, at Enron Field. Texas pitcher Joel Pineiro, in particular, had a standout performance. Pineiro got the win, improving to 9-3. He gave up 7 hits and walked 2 over 8 innings. He allowed 1 run. Texas has now won 4 in a row.

Texas used a timely hit from Gary Matthews to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rangers ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.

"It was just a matter of executing," said Texas manager Richard Neumann.
