It was a great day for Sammy Sosa, but not a good one for his Texas Rangers. The 30-year-old left fielder reached a personal milestone with his 400th career homer, but it wasn't enough to beat the Baltimore Orioles, who came away with a 9-8 victory. Sosa finished the day with 1 hit, 1 run batted in and 1 run scored.

"Well, I've conceded the fact that you can't will yourself to hit a home run," he said. "I tried hard for the last few days. It was getting to be embarrassing with the crowd standing up every time I came to the plate."

In his career, Sosa has hit .305 with 1642 hits, 400 home runs, 1086 RBIs and scored 1086 runs.
