Both teams had their chances, but the Seattle Mariners eventually prevailed.
Seattle pitcher Orel Hershiser had a large part in his team subduing the Chicago White Sox, 3-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Billy Wagner recorded the save for Seattle, his 22nd of the season.
Tim Salmon, who is a three-time All-Star, had a direct impact on the outcome. Salmon contributed a 2-run single in the top of the sixth inning to put Seattle up, 3-2.
"I like what I saw today," said Seattle manager Pat Tackett, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
With the win, Seattle upped its record to 69-63.
