Seattle Bats Go Silent in 1-0 Loss
|
David Wells pitched well, but the Seattle Mariners still lost the game, falling, 1-0, to the Boston Red Sox at Safeco Field. Gene Nelson earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 4 hits in 3.2 innings. He upped his record to 2-0. Damaso Marte finished the game for Boston and earned his 22nd save.
Josh Hall had a direct impact on the outcome. Hall contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning to put Boston up, 1-0.
"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Pat Tackett.
Boston is last in the AL East Division with a record of 52-84.
