Cardinals Pull Out Late Win, 6-5
Despite a great performance by Atlanta center fielder Marquis Grissom, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Braves by the score of 6-5 in 10 innings at Turner Field. Grissom went 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2. St. Louis reliever J.C. Romero picked up the win, upping his record to 5-6. John Rocker absorbed the loss. The Cardinals raised their record to 83-56.

St. Louis used the timely hitting of Javier Valentin to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Cardinals on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

In postgame remarks, Valentin said: "I'm proud of our guys, of their fight."
