With Late Score, Astros Beat Phillies
|
The Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros provided some drama for the home crowd.
The Houston Astros handed the Philadelphia Phillies a 5-4 defeat at Veterans Stadium. First Baseman Frank Thomas starred for Houston. He went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. Mariano Rivera got credit for the save for Houston. It was his 37th of the year.
Billy Ashley drove in one run for Houston. The 29-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the eighth. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Bill Pulsipher. It was his 20th RBI of the season.
"Just glad I could help us get a win," said Ashley.
After today's action, Houston sits at 91-49; Philadelphia slips to 66-72.
