Phillies Take Tight Tilt
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Houston Astros, former first round draft pick Joey Hamilton was the difference-maker. The Philadelphia right-hander spearheaded the 2-1 win. Hamilton, now 11-11, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The save went to John Wetteland, number 18 for him.
Philadelphia catcher Ivan Rodriguez delivered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. Overall, he went 3 for 4, picking up 1 home run, 1 single, and 1 double. He scored 1 run and knocked in 2.
"Joey was exceptional and he pitched with a purpose," said Philadelphia manager Tim Brock.
Philadelphia is now 68-72.
