Cubs Suffer One-Run Loss at New York
|
Chicago got a terrific game from right fielder Geoff Jenkins. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to New York, 8-7. Jenkins was 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. New York reliever Aaron Small picked up the win, upping his record to 3-1. Kevin Gregg was saddled with the loss. The setback makes the Cubs 6-13.
Had Chris Donnels not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Donnels hit a 2-run single. That made the score 8-7, in favor of the Mets.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Donnels.
