Mets Turn Back Marlins, 4-2
The New York Mets topped the Florida Marlins, 4-2, in NL action at Shea Stadium. The standout performance belonged to New York pitcher and Portsmouth, Virginia, native Todd Ritchie. Ritchie picked up the win for New York, going 7.2 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 1-2. Brandon Lyon earned his 3rd save, after closing out the game.

David Wright had a big run-scoring double for the Mets in the bottom of the fifth inning. With New York leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a cutter from Roy Halladay, who finished 2nd in the NL in innings pitched with 257.1 in 1999, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mets ahead, 3-1.

"Todd showed what he's made of," said New York manager Bob Detherage.

Florida drops to 13-7.
