Diamondbacks Topple Cubs with Late Rally
|
At Wrigley Field, the Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
Diamondbacks center fielder Reggie Sanders left his imprint on his team's 6-3 win over the Chicago Cubs. Sanders was 4-5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI for Arizona in the contest. Michael Wuertz, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1997 draft, was the winner in relief. His record is now 2-1. The losing pitcher was Paul Quantrill.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Jack Wilson came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Chicago pitcher Paul Quantrill, he hit a full count sinker for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Arizona on top, 5-3.
"Nice to get this one," said Wilson. "We've been scuffling."
The triumph makes Arizona 16-42.
