Metzger Gets No-Hitter Against Port Charlotte
Tuesday, April 16th , 2002
In a dominant outing, Jon Metzger of the West Palm Beach Expos totally silenced the bats of the Port Charlotte Rangers, finishing with a no-hitter.
In the 5-0 victory, Metzger faced only 32 batters, surrendered no hits, had 5 strikeouts and 5 walks.
"Honestly, I didn't even know the situation was what it was until the seventh inning," West Palm Beach manager Mike Lee said. "I happened to look up there to see how many hits we had gotten, and I happened to notice that they hadn't gotten any."
Commenting on the defeat, losing manager Dave Roberts had a "pretty simple" analysis of the game.
"The Expos had all the hits and all the runs, so they won," he snapped. "But yeah, Metzger pitched a heck of a ballgame."

Lakeland Held Hitless by Rivera
Monday, April 15th , 2002
Miami Miracle starter Oscar Rivera came up big at Florida State University Park with an exceptional 3-0 win against the Lakeland Tigers. Not only did he whip them, but Rivera held them hitless, too.
"My arm was a bit sore in warmups," confessed Rivera. "Sometimes you go out there and you're not feeling all that hot. You get into the game and all of a sudden in the seventh inning you look up and see the scoreboard and think to yourself, 'Oh, my goodness, I have a no-hitter!' You're so focused on what you're doing, it just happens."
In the course of the no-hitter, Rivera collected 15 strikeouts and surrendered 2 walks -- a day good enough to get his name in the history books.
