Mariners Best Rangers in Pitching Duel
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers, Carl Pavano, who finished 2nd in the AL in innings pitched with 261.2 in 1998, was the difference-maker. The Seattle right-hander spearheaded the 2-1 win. The Mariners have stumbled out of the gate, getting only their 4th win in 19 games.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Mariners had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the second, when left fielder Orlando Palmeiro hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Joel Pineiro and made the score 2-1, Mariners. Palmeiro was 1-3.
"I executed the game plan," said Pavano.
